She has an older brother, Tommy, now a chiropractor, and an older sister Jillian, who studied psychology at UCLA. Bynes learned the comedy trade from Arsenio Hall and Richard Pryor at a comedy camp. Her first acting job (she was only seven years old at the time) was an appearance in a television commercial for Buncha Crunch candies. During her childhood, Amanda appeared in several musical theater productions, including “Annie,” The Secret Garden, “The Music Man,” and “The Sound of Music.” In 1996, Amanda joined the cast of “Figure It Out” and “All That.” Her success in these shows led to the extraordinary chance for her to star in her own show. From 1999 to 2002, Amanda hosted “The Amanda Show” on Nickelodeon. She left the show in 2002 in order to pursue a career in films. Her first film was “Big Fat Liar,” about a high school boy whose idea is stolen by a big time film producer, and who then goes to Hollywood with his best friend Kaylee (Amanda) to reclaim the credit that rightfully belongs to him. The film grossed $48 million in the United States. Her next film, “What a Girl Wants” (2003) received mixed reviews, but was highly popular about its target audience of teenage girls. Amanda subsequently starred in the WB sitcom “What I Like About You.” She has also done voice-overs for “Charlotte’s Web II” (2003) and for the animated comedy “Robots” (2005). Her latest movie, “She’s the Man” (2006), is based on Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” She is now working on two film projects: “Lovewrecked,” a romantic comedy, and an adaptation of the Broadway musical “Hairspray.” Amanda says that she would like to take on more mature roles as her career progresses. She has taken a big step toward that goal by choosing to study at New York University. | | | Other Notes: | Want to have some fun with Amanda? Check out her word search puzzle! | | |
